Know the Difference between SCSI and SATA Hard Disk

SCSI – Small Computer System Interface is a set of standards that is used for connecting and transferring data among computers and peripheral devices. SCSI is widely used for HDD and tape drives, and it can even connect to other devices that includes CD drives and Scanners.

SATA – Serial ATA is a computer bus interface, which will connect hot bus adapters to mass devices like hard disk and optical drives. SATA hard drive interface has reduced cable size and even cost. It offers swapping, faster transfer of data via higher signaling rates with efficient transfer through I/E queuing protocol.

  • SCSI hard disk interface has processor that is integrated into controller whereas SATA interface employs higher use of system processor to server that function.
  • SATA configuration would perform extremely well in streaming media and file server scenarios, whereas SCSI configurations based on the respective type of hard disks and adapter are king in database applications.
  • SCSI hard disks has a strong tagged command queuing implementation for allowing multiple commands to provide effective performance for controllers or drives to order commands in optimal execution manner. But, Serial ATA allows only a bus release known as command queuing.

Both hard disk types offers several advantages and disadvantage, so one can go with the features and make your decision to buy SCSI or SATA HDD.
