The new version of Windows 10 has already arrived and it’s time to upgrade your Windows 7 computers to Windows 10. Even though, this task could be relatively easy for many users, but it might not be that easy for everyone else. There are few things that should be kept in mind while up grading PC from old to new version. This article would help you upgrade your systems in an easy way without any difficulty.
Windows 10 has got many new features like the cortana, universal apps, Microsoft HoloLens, XBOX gaming app etc. Now that Microsoft has released this version in 29 July this year, so Windows 10 will be free for the coming one year. It will be free for those users who are running a genuine copy of Windows 7 on their PC’s. But before you jump to the upgrade, there are some things you need to know.
For e.g., you will be getting Windows 10 operating system free only if you have Windows 7 with Service Pack 1.
- You can check if you have Service Pack 1by opening Run command with Windows + R shortcut keyboard, typing winver and the operating system in your computer should read “Version 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1)”. If you don’t have it on your computer, you have to manually update it and make sure you download “windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe” if you’re running a 64-bit version or “windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe” if you’re running a 32-bit version of Windows 7.
- After getting all the latest updates, make sure the Windows update is enabled, and by this time “Get Windows 10” icon should appear as a notification on your Windows 7 PC and if you don’t see this message, then probably your system is not compatible to Windows 10 or the update isn’t configured correctly.
- In case you don’t want to go with the above 2 steps, then you can update KB3035583 which will install the “Get Windows 10” app on your system, after that you just need to click Reserve your free upgrade button from lower right corner of computer screen and enter email address to get confirmation message when the operating system is ready to install, after that click “Send Confirmation” and that’s it your Windows 7 will be upgraded to Windows 10.
One more thing to be noted here is that the Get Windows 10 app also includes a checkup tool using which you can check all the information that is required to know before the upgrade. Once Windows 10 is available to you, a notification on your laptop will pop up, just accept all the Important Legal stuffs and then the wizard will display a message your Upgrade is ready to install, then click on Start the upgrade now to begin the process. And after this, your system will be successfully installed to Windows 10.
Even though, this entire process is straightforward, it is advisable to keep a backup of all the important personal files, folders, images on a separate storage device before the upgrading procedure is performed.
